Spaced repetition: smart tools to improve long-term memory retention

This workshop will first briefly introduce and demonstrate the concept of “spaced repetition” which is the act of reviewing previously learned material with increasing intervals of time between subsequent reviews in order to retain it in long-term memory.

Following this, three free web-based tools will be demonstrated and evaluated, including Anki, Cerego and Memrise. These tools were used by the presenter in the higher education English as a Foreign Language context but can easily be used in any subject which requires learners to acquire facts or concepts and retain them in their long-term memory.
